Lesson 6

1. I searched - holidays, then within results searched spring then traditions, food and festivals. Many countries were listed with Event overview. Lots of easy to find info and pictures too. I really like this site! MS friendly!!!

2. The first topic was T'ai Chi. In advance search I chose after 2012. Then sort by publication date.
Super easy!!!

3. Students would be able to site specific evidence to support the analysis of primary and secondary sources.

4. Students each receive a topic in Ancient Egypt. They will research and present their finding in a Power Point presentation.
6th grade students will be able to  Use precise words and phrases, relevant descriptive details, and sensory language to convey experiences and events when they report their findings.

I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!

Lesson 5

1. I did an advanced search then I narrowed my results. For me it was easier to use the advance search first. The search came up with articles about the book.

2. I found this very difficult to find. If I was a MS student I would use World Book.

3. 7th grade students would be able to find information for a short research project using several sources. And generate  focused questions or further research.

SIRS Discove

  1. I went to advanced search and unchecked the moderate and challenging buttons. The first site that came up was "Our Solar System". The print was large and doubled space. It also included a quiz. I like that it was not too wordy and over powering for young struggling readers.
  2. When Volcano is searched  - 141 items in the graphic tab. I did an advance search and it should 0 graphics but when I clicked on the blue hi-lighted volcano in the first article 187 images turned up.
  3. SIRS Issue Researcher of course. Standards search, Curriculum Relevant, Student Safe are just a few of reasons to use SIRS over Google.
  4. Gun control, school lunch program and pet ordinances.
  5. 8th grade students would be given a debate topic and then use SIRS Issue Researcher for information to debate their side. The standard that would be met is Comprehension and Collaboration CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.8.1 (I really like the educator resource)
